Hi Kathy, I just spoke to Joe.  He doesn't remember it that well but he said the block was a "test".  They always meant to do the epidural.  He's not sure why they had to do a test but maybe just to see how his body handles it.  I asked if it hurt & he said they put him to sleep.  At first I was thinking he was remembering wrong but I do remember I had to drive him.  As you know, whenever they put you under anesthesia, you have to have a driver.  When I was pregnant, I had to have a C-section.  Some doctors put you under but the hospital I went did not.  They gave me a spinal.   I remember being scared & saying to myself DON'T MOVE.  But they made me sit & bend over & the nurse actually threw herself on top of me to keep me from moving.  I had back labor so I didn't feel the needle.  My back hurt from labor.  I guess it's no difference from regular labor, except it's in your back.  You've had three babies, so you know you can deal with the pain.  You can always say your are nervous & want to go under but it probably isn't necessary.  They know what they are doing.  They do this all the time.

I can't imagine Joe's back hurts.  He never complains & he does work around the house.  But the bowling is a lot and he does it twice a week.  I just know the first one, which I learned was a block, didn't work.  That's what he said this morning. 

That's awesome that you are a great grandmother.  Boarding is probably the best thing to do.  Your dogs will be well taken care of.  Many years ago, my neighbor went away & her son was supposed to be watching her dog.  He was either in high school or college.  Can't remember.  But my other neighbor went over & said the dog didn't even have water to drink.  and I think she said he wasn't taking care of the kitty litter.  Sometimes it's better to have people who are in the business of babysitting animals.  Plus some places will walk your dogs every day.  It will all work out.  Just concentrate on yourself.  They need you healthy.

When you do the prep, just get a good book to read.  The worse thing is that the volume of liquid you have to drink might make your stomach a little upset by the end.  But that's not that bad.  Drinking a lot of water, helps with the prep.  But your doctor will tell you.

Hi Kathy yes, Joe had only two injections.  I thought he had more.  I didn't know there was a difference between a block & an epidural.  I had a spinal when Katie was born.
