I am originally from Pennsylvania, born in Pittsburgh but raised in central PA. AKA Pennsyltucky. I have moved around a lot, but the only time I was in Kentucky was when I was living in South Texas and my son & I flew back to PA for a visit, and had to change planes in the Cincinnati airport. Which I assumed was in Ohio. But there was a storm in Philly, and our flight was cancelled, and we spent the night in a nearby hotel. And that is when I realized that we were actually in Kentucky. BTW, this was before smart phones were really a thing, so I had to figure it out from the road signs. I don't think I even had a laptop at that point, it was prior to 2007.

The local news (which comes out of Yuma & covers Yuma County, AZ, and Imperial County, CA) posts an Air Quality Index covering Imperial County as part of their weather report. I'm nearly an hour south of the southern end of the 'sea' so it's not so bad.

OTOH this is still the low desert (where I live is 40 ft BELOW sea level) so there's still a lot of dust. I moved here for a job, which happens to pay better than any previous job that I've had, so I was able to buy my 1st house. It came with a half dozen fruitless mulberries (2 in the front, 2 in the back, and 2 in the sidewalk strip) which I refuse to top like everyone else here tends to do. Turns out that the branches are kind of weepy, and that helps to cut down on the wind & dust.

I'm in Imperial County, which includes at least part of the Salton Sea, so I'm close enough. Not exactly on the shores, though.

You shouldn't encourage Sir Dim! He is driving me crazy. He wants me to open the garden, but the Sea Uni is giving me a hard time. I will open when the critter changes on Sunday!
