Hello Dianne, sorry to hear the fence is keeping you awake. Do you know who's fence it is? To me it's a clear cut situation. If it is their fence then they have to pay & if it's yours it can stay how it is. Some peeps just try it on. As it says in a little frame @ the side of me, ''Don't stress do your best''.I had a similar problem some years ago, bloke wanted me to go 50/50 on the cost. I said no way, if you want a new fence you pay. Also if it is your fence it's up to you what happens, but don't stress. That's the opinion of ''Ed the barrack room lawyer''. First appointment is free. lol..I don't know about your country but there is a law on how high a neighbours fence can be. Here it's about six feet. Try & avoid silly solicitors bills. That Monday club is ideal for seeking advice & sharing problems. So please don't stress , life is to short. I understand you don't want to fall out with the neighbour but stand your ground. The trouble is your to nice. They may get upset but they will get over it. Now just sit back & relax & enjoy your evening.

Splash thanks for spotting Dianne. The elderly man x neighbour gave me the money for looking after the cat etc he buys the cat food. He recently had to move out next door because of his son threatening behaviour and he is in a one bed council sheltered housing scheme so can't have the cat.  His x wife is also renting and can't have the cat. I'll carry on feeding her for now see what happens with the house. I'm having housing survey checking my house condition on Tuesday so trying to tidy and clean up a bit before then. It's dull and rainy here.
