Interesting about the lilacs of yours.
We had very old lilac bushes where I grew up. They were a dark blue...which are a favourite probably because of that. The neighbours had white and the maroon coloured...they were lovely too. The neighbourhood smelled lovely at certain times of the year.

I am eliminating messages on my back wall and found yours about the lily-of-the-valley. As a kid there was a small section next to our fence that was almost like no man's land as under a giant evergreen. The lily-of-the-valley took root and iflled that space and produced that fragrance that I so love. So I kind of did the same at the side of our house...a small section of land that, because it was between two houses...nothing much grew. Grabbed a few lily-of-the-valley from a neighbour, put in a raised bed and it is full of them. No maintenance required.
Did you know that they used to plant lilacs on graves? As a marker and for the fragrance. One of my husband's ancestors was buried on a farm...and they marked the spot with a lilac bush.

Skunk cabbage. Oh no. And it is not pretty to look at.
There are violets which grow alongside the woods in the next block...and there are lilac trees as well. So between those two fragrances...it is heavenly. Much roadwork being done up there this year...so I wonder if all the violets will be gone. And they are putting in sidewalks so I hope that they don't have to remove the lilacs.
I have lily of the valley along my walkway...there is another fragrance that I just love.

Our daffodils are about four inches in height. Snowdrops are out. Crocus...have no idea if in bloom as have not seen any. They should be. Violets should be soon...I just love their fragrance. Brings back childhood memories of picking them for a small bouquet for my mother...and then the fragrance in the house afterwards.
