Thor did start making a strange howl the other night out in back garden and when i went to see what he was up to he was standing next to a hedgehog, im still not sure which one was more scared, thor was very curious though. i had to bring him in so i could take the hh over to woodland area close by, the poor wee thing was shaking with fright. managed to get it in to a bucket to transport it safely. im pretty sure if i had left it thor would have ended up with lots of sore bits from it's spines x

Aw, thank you. She started out as Thumbelina, then I realized I really liked Umbellina better!! It means shady, like an umbrella, and umbellifers are the plants which have flower heads on multiple stems, like cow parsley, Angelica, and loads of others. So, she is a hedgerow flower, growing in the shade of the hedge....

What a wonderful story about your chicks! My son brought me 5 canadian geese goslings. Something had killed the mama and was getting the babies. 3 of them didn't survive an hour, but 2 did. As they got old enough, I took them down to one of our ponds and they learned to swim. I helped them learn to fly. Once they were proficient enough to take care of themselves, I turned them loose. They stayed close for some time, but then they joined up with flock, probably to find a mate as they mate for life when possible.  They circled back a couple of times but then said goodbye.  That's the longest we ever kept wild creatures that we rescued. We nursed a red hawk back to life, but only had him for a few days. When he felt ready to go, we let him. Not going to keep anything wild longer than we have to. I only put my foot down 1 time in all the years of rescue work. The kids brought home a box of kittens., (you know the breed that has the black stripe down their backs? LOL)  The mother had been run over by a tractor in our neighbor's field. They got to mke their home in  wild animal reserve. Sorry kids. :)
