Hello. Well, that fire raged all night and by some miracle no homes were burnt. By late afternoon yesterday they had two fire lines they were monitoring, the water choppers were grounded due to poor conditions, but we had some light rain, so here’s hoping! It’s been terrible. Our home has smelled of fire since Monday and we’ve had some light ash on everything outside, so I cannot even imagine the homes right on the mountains. I’ve lived in a flat right at the foot of the Lakeside mountains and there was a bad fire. Luther was little and we were packed and ready to evacuate, luckily the wind changed direction, but the smell was in everything for weeks!

Hi. We’ve had days of fires. Started in Tokai lower mountains, spread to Constantia mountain side (which we watched from our front garden) and it went around the other way, burning all along the mountains. By last night two areas were still burning. Some suburbs had evacuations. Cape Town is so beautiful, we have a stunning mountain range, but when it burns it’s so scary. My sisters friend lives in Lakeside just below the mountain and she watched the flames coming over, but luckily they water bombed it before it reached homes. All we heard yesterday were the water choppers, non stop. A few of us in our street put together blankets, towels and cat/dog food for the shelters who are taking in the lost pets, and injured wildlife. I can hear the first chopper out now as I type this. Rain is expected tomorrow so we are all holding thumbs (fingers crossed) 🤞
