Just listen to the bird.

I would just go by what the bird says...so if it says you need to spot wagtails...then just go hunt them and eventually you will have an egg. I know that isn't scientific...but it is what I would do. Now finding the right bird can be tricky...I am trying to attract finches and I get more wrens and wags. You will get there. Now when you spot the right bird it doesn't say a thing...there is no pop up and I wish that there was so that we would know instantly. But it does say when the laying bird turns to an egg...so at least we know that we don't have to keep hunting.

When you click on the laying bird in the nest...what is the task for you?

So did your finch give you the right spotting data? Was that sorted? I remember seeing something at the forums that the bird in the nest didn't give the same numbers as what you had spotted...or something like that.
