Rylee is my little helper. As I am getting up there in age I felt it was a good idea to teach him to pick things up off of the floor for me. It has grown from simple things like towels on the floor in front of the dryer to pens under my desk. Lately he has started picking things I deliberately drop into the recycle box beside me in my office. He hands me the empty toilet paper roll I just dropped into it. Standing beside me with it in his mouth smiling and wagging his tail "Just being helpful mom - you dropped this." What he really wants is the reward. Last winter I wore my gloves out at night in the gazebo, as I warmed up I would remove the gloves and put them on the table beside me. Rylee would snag one from the table and drop it on the floor - when I looked for it he would pick it up from the floor and give it to me - with that same wag and smile - he's just to smart sometimes.
