I've always known the Jack and the Beanstalk character as "the hen which laid the golden egg".

The golden goose is a different story, I think :)

"The Goose that Laid the Golden Egg"  is one of Aesop's fables.  It has nothing to do with Jack and the Beanstalk.

I guess the moral of the story is that more than one type of bird can lay golden eggs.  Now, where to get such a bird (any type will do)...ebay perhaps?

I wonder, as with so many things..it may be a cultural story difference? I always heard it told th golden goose:) However, with Little Red Riding Hood, I never knew that the huntsmen actually had to cut open the wolf to save granny and red...and I learned that many people have known this their whole lives....
