Here is the information from last year regarding this:
HOW DO I INCREASE THE ODDS OF HAVING A VIOLET CHICK FOUND IN MY GARDEN
get the egg colour the same as the colour chick you need
get the next egg colour down the ‘rainbow’ in another nest in your garden
wait for an alert.. IF the lower egg colour wobbles first (NOT the one you want) dump the food and put new out.. do not let the lower egg hatch.
if the higher colour egg hatches first.. it will be that coloured chick, as the lower egg ‘locks in’ all the other lower coloured chicks.
The above method does require some plate dumping, but has worked really well for a lot of Fairylanders!
So to get:
violet chick – need violet and indigo egg
indigo chick – indigo and blue egg
blue chick – blue and green egg
green chick – green and yellow egg
yellow chick – yellow and orange egg
orange chick – orange and red egg
Any colour egg will increase the chances of a violet chick but the higher the better. For example, with only a violet egg the program has a 1 in 7 chance of giving you a violet chick (about 14%). If you also have another egg (e.g. yellow) then the number of possible chicks to hatch from the violet egg goes down to 4. That means you then have a 1 in 4 chance (25%) of a violet chick from the violet egg (assuming it hatches first, which is down to luck). Here’s the chances of violet from a violet egg when you have a second egg in the garden:
SECOND EGG COLOUR
Red – 1 in 6 chance of violet chick from violet egg (17%)
Orange – 1 in 5 chance of violet chick from violet egg (20%)
Yellow – 1 in 4 chance of violet chick from violet egg (25%)
Green – 1 in 3 chance of violet chick from violet egg (33%)
Blue – 1 in 2 chance of violet chick from violet egg (50%)
Indigo – 1 in 1 chance of violet chick from violet egg (100%)
This is from the news flash for the chick release; “the violet egg randomly hatches any colour chick (with equal chance.)”
The rarity of the chicks is based on the randomness of the eggs themselves. There is (probably) an equal chance of getting each egg, but only 1 in 7 eggs (on average) can hatch a violet chick. Hence, the violet chick is more rare than any of the other chicks that can hatch from more than one colour egg.
PLEASE NOTE: The above-mentioned can take a long time to guarantee success, and it might be less stressful to just go with the flow, place eggs in your garden and take your chances that way.

I could not say if this has changed from last year as I have not tested any of it this time around :-)
