this nesting tree thing is so confusing

I no longer have directions and haven't been able to figure it out from what I have read in here. How many birds do you need to spot and why only credit from certain ones? I know for a fact (checking my record for the last 2 days that I spotted a chaffinch, a mallard and a wren but only the chaffinch counted.

you need 5 different birds to build your nest (attracted in your garden....not spotted in others), cuckoos don't count as they are not nest builders!, all other adult birds count including myths, you need to attract 5 of each bird for it to add to your nest, unless it is the first of a kind to visit your garden which will also add a nest piece! hope that makes sense xx

And it's a multiple of ten of a bird that has contributed to the nest, that actually sits in the nest, THEN you go off and find a multiple of 5 of whatever type of bird your nesting bird asks of you

I thought this was a helpful little list someone posted last night:

Every 5th Bird spotted in your garden builds a nest
Every 10th Bird spotted in your garden (that has contributed to the nest or a cuckoo) lays in the nest and gives you a task
Every 5th bird you find in other gardens (of the type the task tells you to find) finishes your task and gives you an egg

I have had lots of waxwings... maybe ten but definitely more than five but nothing has happened with regard to them contributing to build my nesting tree... does anyone know why????????????????????????? Please reply to me below ... thanks

You've had 24 waxwings spotted, in total. Most likely the 20th was spotted when that tree was not in the garden. The next waxwing should contribute to your nest.

Or actually, the 20th probably was the one that nested in your other tree? That now has the egg?

yes but i have had 5 since i put the tree out in fact today alone i think there were 3 or 4 so with the ones from yesterday ity should have added to my nest.x

The 20th would have been the one spotted 19 hours and 24 minutes ago on your now empty plate, since there have been four spotted since then (one more on the same plate and three on the other). Was that the one that nested in your other tree, and gave you a task to do that you completed for the egg? Or was the one that nested a lot longer ago?
