Topiary trails

Savannah and Midnight ♥ 11 hours, 51 minutes ago

Hello,

I am wanting to complete the topiary trails but I have 0 seeds- it seems so hard to get them! How many roughly will I need to complete them?

And can anybody give me some insight on how to complete them?

Thank you! I have just planted my first bush

You need a minimum of 28 seeds to complete Topiary (assuming everything goes to plan and you don't lose any of your bushes along the way).

However you don't need all 28 before you start, you can start with just one seed. You need to spot a lot of topiary wildlife in order to complete the challenge, so you'll collect seeds as you go.

I had 28 before I started, because I prefer to have everything I need ready to go. When I finished the challenge I had over 60 seeds, so they really do add up!

Also, the challenge is a long one - it took me almost a year and I did multiple trails at a time (2 or 3) and didn't do much else. So it's a long term challenge.

Once your first bush is trimmed you will need to attract and spot a certain number of the topiary animal it trimmed into - I think for red it's attract 3 spot 1 (but it's been a while so I may be wrong!) and the number you need to spot/attract increases gradually as you move through the colours. You will need to complete the red trail 7 times, orange 6, yellow 5... etc. until you get to violet which you only need to do once.

If you want (and have the seeds) you can do more than one trail and more than one different colour at once.

You can use the fairyland calculator to calculate the order for each pot (once you know what the first animal is). It makes sense to keep the pots to use again as you know the order so can plan accordingly. This is particularly important as some of the plants later on need to be RFH (crane, leopard, badger) so the plants need to be planted in advance of when you need them.

Once the bush is fully grown you get 5 days to trim it and complete the spotting/attracting needed. If you don't complete this the bush goes RFH and you need to start again. If you complete it in time a new bush is planted (no seed required) and you move onto the next stage. You repeat until finished - for red trail there are 3 stages and this increases by 3 as you move up each colour level.

I hope that makes some sense but please feel free to ask any questions. It's pretty straightforward once you start and understand the process - it just goes on a long time!

That link will take you to a chart which I found very useful when doing the trails.

I had to hunt for the topiaries to get seeds...and it can be a challenge. A friend told me to start with nine seeds...and those carried me through to completion...as you do collect more along the way by doing the spotting that is required. One seed is a start...so a good idea to do a trail to get the hang of it...and then completed it is one off the list to finish. Do not feel that you have to rush along...bushes can grow quite nicely on their own without having to always diamond dust. I started my first red trail using a pink cap...and that helped to keep the riff raff away and allowed it to go ready for harvest as I had totally dusted. Once the bush is fully grown..you have five days to trim, attract and spot...so lots of time. I went back after I finished the seven red trails required...to get my rainbow rocks for instant ready for harvest mushrooms. It can be done without this pot...but it really helped me.

Yes, often, once the new bush was dropped, i just let it sit until i had plants RFH or did other things, because if you don’t dust it at all, you have 5 days until it is fully grown and then another 5 days to do your spotting/attracting, so you really can have 10 days until it’s RFH, if you leave it as such 😊
