Never have done bees in all my years - need some clarification please!

I've read the Forum notes on attracting bees written years ago & see the steps. However, today I created my 1st All-red Honey blossom. I put out a new Hive and have left the red honey Blossom in the garden - but I'm now only attracting Red bees; where are the orange bees - or is there something I can do to increase the odds of the orange bees coming vs the red ones again?? I'm about ready to freeze or just stop as this isn't exactly fun - maybe that's why it never really appealed to me over the years. A see so many gardens with beautiful green or blue or even Rainbow honey blossoms. I'd greatly appreciate comments/direction on how to proceed. Currently the new hive has 2 red bees/is 40% full. I don't want two red hives. I was told this wasn't an easy quest (?) to do as it takes a lot of juggling. Just wanted to make sure I'm understand the process correctly.... Thank you as always x

It is a very slow process unfortunately.  The all red blossom only attract orange bees very mildly, so the aim is to get a hive filled with at least 1 orange bee with the reds.  Then you plant a blossom in that one, which will have 1 orange petal, and you keep repeating the process, as you get more orange petals, the attraction will increase and you will get more orange, until eventually you have an all-orange blossom, and then you repeat that with the next color.  You will discard many beehives during this process.

I also do not understand the process still want to try it but not have much idea

This is from the guide for Orange bee
Attracted by any fully grown Honey Blossom which has some orange in the flower (the more orange, the stronger the attraction.)
Also very mildly attracted by a Honey Blossom with all red petals.
Maybe try it a bit more ...the red honey blossom should bring some so always has a beehive in which the Orange bee can contribute to be able to plant a seed and have a plant with some Orange which will help to attract more oranges

Thank you both for your comments - I'll give it a go again tomorrow. It's getting a bit late here & I've been on all day. Thanks again - & will start fresh in the morning! x

It is indeed a very slow progress and it is totally random what part of it will give you the most trouble. I moved from Red to Orange rather easily and was fooled into believing it is an easy challenge. Then the transition from Orange to Yellow made me almost quit. But I did find it mildly entertaining (I like the pretty colours and managing to get the correct bees into a hive was more rewarding than the failures) and so I kept going.

You can stop at any point (no rule says you need to do it all in one Summer) but I would give it a little more time before abandoning efforts. The new colour bees seem to always take their sweet time appearing for the 1st time (like most rare critters in Fairyland). You can use more all red honeypots for the black bears but after a while you should start discarding any hive that starts with a red bee. Eventually you will see that getting 1 or 2 higher colour Bees/Petals isn't so difficult but getting to all 5 is the real challenge.

I would also advise to dedicate an many plates as possible to the challenge and not try to do things on the side as that would slow your progress significantly. With 3 plates I managed to transition between most colours with only spending 2-3 Honey Blossoms.

Also keep any hives that are Full with the same colour, especially Red, Indigo & Violet as they will come in handy for doing The Bears, Honey Badger & Queen Bee.

I think the Queen Bee needs only a fully orange & a fully blue pot/flower. The rest of combination is all mixed colors. And the Honey Badger needs a pot with all different bees.
