how to spot a yelllow wagtail

Albina and Lisa2 weeks ago

May seem like a silly question, but I simply cannot spot any yellow wagtails, and I need to spot four. There are ducks, wrens, chaffinches ... if there are wagtails, it's only because somebody else have spotted some in the garden. Any help to break the curse would be appreciated - where to look.

I usually check out wren and chaffinch as well as wagtail , unless you were lucky enough to find a garden deterring all but wagtail

Unfortunately, it is all down to luck & patience. And, unless you are lucky enough to locate a garden with YW dedicated setup, you should go through all insect-attracted & birdmix-eating animal lists (all those birds plus the Bee Eater, Anteater & Aardvark and even Hedgehog gardens if they have birdmix on).

Birdbaths are worth a shot - it's a long shot but you never know :)

When I'm having a particularly bad time spotting something, I'll post in the Make A Wish page and hope for some fairy magic (this isn't a trick to getting any spotted, just a placebo effect). It's a shame that wildlife becomes elusive when you *need* it.

I do that too Shannon ☺️

Just an update on adventures of a FL spotter :)

Now I am searching for cuckoos (average, stays almost an hour). In a garden with an empty nest OF COURSE I spotted a crane (rare, may stay as little as one minute).

How lucky am I, thinking about buying a lottery ticket :)
