Can you attract ghostly frogs without having ever had the regular frog breeding task completed?

If you've never done any frog breeding before, you'd need to go back to dry land and get spawn from a land frog, if you are due any.  You get one land frog for each complete set of tadpole, froglet and underwater frog you've spotted in other gardens.  Once you have the spawn, you'd then have to go underwater to start the frog breeding by attracting tadpoles to the spawn.  You'd then get one froglet for every tadpole you attract, and a frog for every tadpole.  If they're spotted in the murky pond, you get ghostly frogs.

Such a lot of work 😣 I think I will work on that through the holiday season lol and be ready for ghostly frogs next year. Thankyou

If you never had a ghost frog visit underwater the very first one drops spawn according to the info on the ghost frog page  ,j

Yes but it looks like I’d need to have attracted tadpoles, froglets etc first and I haven’t done any of the frog breeding tasks

No u need to have spotted sets. We can't see how many sets including ghost frogs u have spotted. if u have at least 1 set then u need to attract that one on land to drop spawn on an empty waiting plate.

I’ve only spotted 2 tadpoles and 1 froglet no underwater frogs and no land frogs. Makes it hard when I’m sure it’s an out dated task that not many are completing at this time.

Then u immediately go underwater ....but u should plan it so that u can attract as many ghosties wildlife  as possible le under water. If u then play ur food atea right u never need to spot frogs again. I.e only attract the number of friglets u need for spawn and have as many tadpoles on ha d as u can get.

You wld need to check the wildlife guide,  u have to spot a frog, people make spawn all the time for bottom.dwellers  It's tricky having spotted just 1 set cos then u cant make an error with plates food etc. Superfood wld be the best frog food so u can get possibly 10 to 20 tadpoles from a plate of superspawn. Attract many tadpoles and then ur frog breeding will be on its way... and u can restart at any time when u want. It's a headful but actually simple at the same time.

I'm so glad this frog breeding conversation was started. I thought I knew all about it because I had done it so very many times! But I had forgotten the basic information, and gave wrong advice, so I'm glad to have it described in so many different ways.
