I hate to be dense, but exactly what am I supposed to be doing?  I have out the tea set.  Now what?

You need to go hunting for Card Gardeners.  Every 5 you spot will drop a seed in a tea set piece.  You need 3 to really get started.  So spot 15 Card Gardeners.

Edited to fix a mistake:

I wrote this last week to help someone - it might be useful here:

Alice in Fairyland Guide: The Caucus Race

The aim of the challenge is to attract and spot the sets of Alice wildlife. The first set is the Caucus Race. You need to attract ten of each of these three critters, and spot three of each in other gardens, in order to unlock the next set (The Mad Hatters Tea Party) when it is released next month. This info is shown when you click on the Mad Hatters Tea Party section on the left hand side of the Alice tab in the Wildlife Guide.

The wildlife is attracted when you have exactly three cards in your garden, and the correct food. Cards are the "fruit" of the Talking Tiger Lily plant. To get these planted, you need to have empty teaset pots (teapot, milk jug, sugar bowl, teacup) in your garden, and spot multiples of five of the the Card Gardener character in other gardens. Every fifth spotted will plant a Talking Tiger Lily seed in an empty teaset pot. You can use teaset pots earned from the festive calender in past years if you have them, or there is a new white and gold set available free from the Pot Shop (Misc tab) especially for this challenge.

Each of the Caucus Race wildlife is attracted when you have the correct value of diamond suit card in the correct position of the three cards, and comfits food out. The leftmost card attracts The Dodo, the middle card attracts The Lory, and the rightmost card attracts The Mouse. The cards work independently of each other, so you can change one without affecting the others.

If you do not have the right value of diamond card, you will get the Helper critters instead of the Caucus Race ones. These come as follows:

If your leftmost card is too low to attract the Dodo, you will get the White Rabbit.
If your leftmost card is too high to attract the Dodo, you will get Dinah.

If your middle card is too low to attract the Lory, you will get the Bread and Butterfly.
If your leftmost card is too high to attract the Lory, you will get the Rocking Horse Fly.

If your rightmost card is too low to attract the Mouse, you will get Tweedledum.
If your rightmost card is too high to attract the Mouse, you will get Tweedledee.

The card needed to attract each of the the Caucus Race Wildlife changes each time it is spotted in your garden.

Each card can be diamond dusted once to move its value up or down one place. The Ace is low and the King high, so these cards can only be dusted once, the Ace up to a two and the King down to a Queen.

Your aim is to use the Helpers as clues to find the cards needed in each position to attract the Caucus Race Wildlife.
