I'm working with a group that is making predictions about the color of candy plants based on shape of bud and which way it leans. We are just gathering data at this point, but we've made a prediction or so, no false positives. This is VERY premature, but we knew one plant was a pentagon, predicted the color would be green, violet or one other, and it was green.

I've started checking out with my plants as to what shape they might be based on how the bud and leaves are placed. Sure there is something in it. Hadn't thought about the colour. Will keep an eye on that from now on too 😀

Cathy, I've not seen all the data compiled, but I'm relatively sure that the shape won't be confirmable by the bud shape.  From what I've seen, it looks like each bud shape will be used for a few different colors and a few different shapes.  I don't think any of the shapes themselves are relegated to one type of bud.  (In other words, you might be able to tell if a red square is a possible outcome from a given bud shape but it will be one of a dozen possible outcomes.  If you know specifically the shape, that will narrow it down even more but there's no way to take a random seed and know which shape you'll get just from the bud.)

I had started to think that the placement of leaves a certain way and direction of bud was 1 of 2 shapes. As I said I haven't thought about the colour yet. Then I got a set up for violet and haven't looked any further.  Interesting to check out while waiting for the right colours 😀

There are something like 4 different buds, I think, but there are a total of 49 different candy plants (7 shapes in 7 different colors).  So, each bud type is going to have a lot of possibilities.

If it works, it can at least eliminate a lot. Instead of 1 in 49, the right bud will give you a 1 in 12 chance.
Even more useful if you know the shape.

And, if you know the shape, you would be able to know that it is 2 or 3 colors. And not be 4 or 5. If our testing proves true, you would have a pentagon, say, that you got from your 5th sugar snout. You need a red, and you can tell from the bud it's gonna be green, violet or yellow. You can choose to harvest it without waiting.

From what I’ve gathered so far, there are 3 bud shapes. You can only predict COLOR from them (more data may prove certain shapes emerge as well, but I know for sure 2 different buds produced triangles so to me, that kinda shoots that theory)
Narrow bud facing right=red, green or violet
Narrow bud facing left= yellow or indigo
Fat bud facing right=blue or orange

Is that true for everyone or just for certain gardens?

I have a left-facing narrow bud at present so should be expecting a yellow or indigo plan5 tomorrow if this holds ...
