I have forgotten since last year the tips about egg placement for different colored eggs (if we want to try for a certain color to hatch).  Can anyone help please?

Put red on the far left, violet on the far right, and everything in between similarly.
The wobble then goes to the first egg it can go to: the left most with a suitable colour.

So to "protect" a violet egg:   put an indigo at the left of it.  All red to indigo coloured chicks/seahorses  will go to the indigo egg, and only a violet chick/seahorse could crack the violet egg in that case.

I thought it had been changed so it automatically went to the lowest possible egg colour regardless of placement.

Thanks.  I'm going to try to get a few Easter bunnies in the garden before I set out "chick feed".  I surely wish placement didn't matter...it would make things so much easier!

I can confirm that it doesn't..
I was in a garden that had an alert on a yellow egg, there was a blue and a violet egg to the left of it.

It was changed a few years back, if I remember rightly.  The chick will always go to the lowest colour it can - I seem to remember that it then goes by position so if you had three yellow eggs it would go to the furthest to the left.  But with only one indigo egg to protect one violet egg, the violet egg would be protected.

You then either have to replace the indigo egg every time it hatches, or you can dump the food if the indigo egg wobbles.  If you dump all the food, the alert will stop and leave the indigo egg in the nest to keep protecting the violet one.

And I'm still none the wiser ....however many times I read it

So...if I have only a violet egg in the garden, a violet chick would hatch?  Does the rainbow egg hatch only rainbow chicks?

Rainbow eggs only hatch rainbow chicks.  Same with red eggs,  they only hatch red chicks.      Other color eggs hatch the color of the egg and any color below.

As far as the strategy or programming how to get specific color other than red or rainbow,   I am with Janette and at a loss!   :)
