Hi Karen!
I really do enjoy learning about my family ancestry and history.  I only wish that I had that interest a very long time ago, when some of my family members were still alive, so I could ask them questions.  I have an older sister who is almost a couple years older than I am and a couple of younger brothers.  Not one of them have any interest in ancestry.  I find it fascinating!  I understand the moving experience you had when you found your paternal grandmothers grave.  I was so emotional when my husband and I found my great-grandparents.  It was so strange, because I didn't know them.  I knew nothing about them, other than hearing their names before.  It was so moving, probably because they were a part of my family history.  All I knew is that I just needed to find them, for me.  It is so nice that you were able to leave a monument for your grandmother. 
How do you like living in Georgia?  I think it would be too hot for me.  I think when it gets in the mid 70's here, it's too hot at times.  But, we do get a lot of humidity, which makes it much worse.  Today it is supposed to go up to 85.  Then a lot of rain, with possibly some flooding.  Hopefully you get a litt

What you wrote about the Keweenaw Peninsula makes me really want to go back again soon, even though I was just there at the beginning of August.  It is such a beautiful place and so much nature to explore and collect rocks.  It is like being in a whole other world at times. 
Like you having relatives that lived up there, I did as well.  Both of my paternal grandparents lived up there before moving to lower Michigan.  I recently found out that my great-grandparents, from Finland, on my grandmothers side, are buried in South Range.  When my husband and I went up there recently, we went to the cemetery and we were able to find their tombstones.  My grandparents never talked about their parents, so I had no idea that they even lived up there.  My great-grandfather worked in the copper mines.  I was so happy that I was able to find where they were buried.  It really made my trip!
I had lived in lower Michigan most of my life, until I went to college in Hancock (Suomi College) and then transferred to Houghton (Michigan Tech).  I lived up there for several years and even though there was a lot of snow, I really loved it up there.  I have so many wonderful memories

Hi Karen, yes, it is the Portage Lake Lift Bridge, between Houghton and Hancock.  I had gone to college up there years ago.  My husband and I just recently took a trip up there to visit.  I always love going up there.  Have you ever been there before?  I think it is so beautiful there!  I see in your photo you have a picture of a lake with all the rocks.  I really love to go rock hunting.  Is that Little Girl's Point?  I have never been there before.  My husband and I are hoping to get there one day.  By your photo, if it is it, I think I am going to love it!  I hope that you have a beautiful day!  x
