How are you doing? I feel like I haven't checked in, in awhile. xx

Now not all things are covered...recently they delisted ear syringing...it would cost fifty dollars unless prescribed by a doctor. Mine is...so no cost. Now when you reach 65 you are covered for dental and drugs. There is a yearly deductable for the drugs of one hundred dollars and after that up to six dollars for dispensing fee...but only if your income is above a certain amount are there these charges. The dental is new so not sure how it works. There is also some sort of assistive devices payment...which I claim for my hearing aids. The idea here is to keep us as healthy as possible so the costs to the healthcare system is not as much...because once one gets sick...those costs escalate.
We do have a doctor shortage though so finding a family doctor is difficult in rural areas like ours...but...nurse practiioners are setting up clinics and they are able to diagnose, prescribe, refer...and treat. So that is of great benefit. As well, pharmacists can diagnose certain health issues and prescribe. I go to my pharmacist for my bi-annual injections...much simpler as I can walk the few blocks there and not be sitting in a waiting room with sick people as I would at the doctor's office.

Yes...Canada pension is like your social security. The old age one is independent...and no contributions from us. I suppose there is through our personal income tax...but it works. There is some sort of cost of living thing with them too...as our financial person told us both that we got increases last year to both. Our universal health care does not cover glasses but it covers eye exams...does not cover drugs or dental unless you fall into certain categories. It covers basically all medical...so hospital stays, treatments, visits to doctors or specialists.

Oh gosh. Sure glad of the positives...your new place and your progress. But I can't imagine having to deal with health insurance...doing the research and not having it taken care of for me. I have never understood why...with the apparent wealth of your country...why universal healthcare is not a given. People could take a preventative approach to their health. I think a great downfall. And not sure your age...but we have what is called old age pension...which is offered to each Canadian citizen aged 65 and older. One does not have to have worked. Just be a Canadian and be 65. Everyone gets the same amount...rich or poor. If you have below a certain amount of income, then you can apply for a supplemental amount to this pension. There is a disability pension too...so you can ultimately collect that and the old age. I collect two pensions...one the old age pension...and the second is Canada pension which I paid into it when I worked. So there would be a deduction from my paycheck...and the company would put in so much too...to this government plan. My husband gets three pensions...his third is from his former workplace. I think that your country needs to think of its people as its bes
