The Brisbane Commonwealth Games were actually in 1982 which is a year I fondly remember. I spent the first half of the year backpacking my way around Europe. The Falklands War broke out while I was in London. When the Argentines sank some British ships the value of the British pound plummeted and I was in danger of running out of money and having to come home early. Luckily  the UK won the war and I stayed my full time. I left London to return to Australia on the day Prince William was born. When I got home my friend presented me with Commonwealth Games tickets and the star of the show on the day I attended was a British decathlete called Daley Thompson. I'm hoping I'll still be around in 2032 when the Olympics are in Brisbane. I have a grand daughter with a burning ambition to be a competitor. Thanks for your message which sent me on my little trip down memory lane.
