I think John answered your question... Keep your pots at each level, and once you've done it the first time keep a note of the critters, they will be in the same order every time you use that pot.

Once you've completed the pottery lottery challenge you enter the lottery and then you get drawn for a prize at the end of the month. If you are lucky you get drawn for a limited pot, but usually you get the regular pot. You can enter the lottery multiple times and increase your chances.
Fun fact: The one time I wanted the regular pot and entered only once I got drawn for the limited pot and got that one instead *lol*

Spotting can often be an issue - just check in with some old-timers, some have top in their greenhouses, or have kept pots that have the rarer critters at the beginning of the trail that they are happy to plant.

The first 3: red, orange, yellow you should be ok.. green you will find a bit harder... Blue, indigo and violet will be a test of your patience.
The fish aren't too bad, the sea pegasus and sea unicorns can be stubborn to plant your pondweed
But the rainbow rocks are worth it when you need a mushroom RFH in a hurry

You will have critters that are harder to attract for your trim, and one more unicorn added at each level....the violet level requires all the unicorns. You will have difficulty getting all the different mushrooms RFH in time before your bush dies.
