Hi Carmen, I wanted the octopus to live but at least he got to see the ocean again & find the safety of his home.  It was awesome that she found her grandson.  I read a review that said she had to say goodbye & "let go" of the octopus at the same dock where she waited for her son.  It was her way of moving on.  It was sad but happy because she got to stay in her home with her grandson.  Sally field is so wholesome.  Glad you liked it too.
