Tomorrow is a public holiday unique to New Zealand only called Matariki.
Matariki is the celebration of the MΔori New Year. It is marked by the rise of the Matariki (Pleiades/Subaru/Mao) star cluster as we pass through the dead of winter (June/July), into a new year.
It is celebrated in 3 ways (besides a bank holiday) over the period when the star cluster rises and is visible to us.
Basically, we remember / mourn those who have passed in this last 12 months. We share food / a meal with others to celebrate what we have in the present. Then thirdly, we prepare the ground/garden and plant food to sustain us in the future.
For now I'm resting, as I've shopped, cleaned my house, written up my menu to share with my neighbours tomorrow and compiled my list of vegetables I'll be planting on Sunday.
So now it's time to do some return sprinkles ππ
