Hi Cath, sounds like your weekend was nice. Lunches out are always fun. The pea-picking was fun, but the bushes were really picked over. I did wind up with close to 2 lbs of peas but most were really small. I tried making up a roasted pea snack- mix garlic, sea salt, other spices with some olive oil and then cook at 450, but it didn't turn out very well. Tasted ok but it was very mushy and not crispy at all, I think maybe I used too much olive oil and had them too crowded on the baking sheet. I'm trying to decide if I want to drive down to Northfield (about 35 miles) and pick strawberries. I'm already planning on making raspberry jam and peach jam when the fruits come in, so maybe strawberry as well. I found a steam canner on Amazon that looks awfully convenient - very compact but can hold 8 jars - compared to having the huge kettle of boiling water and the metal rack and fishing hot jars out with tongs..... I also want to freeze fruit as it comes in season to use in smoothies.
