Hello! If you didn't know - in the UK, the 11th of November is a day of remembrance of the casualties of war, and the nearest Sunday is marked as Remembrance Sunday. It is a non-political holiday.

All over the country, people wear paper or brooch poppies on their lapels to represent the poppies growing in Flander's Field during World War I. Some people choose to wear a white poppy instead; they feel it better represents their remembrance of all the victims of war, soldier and civilian, and their wish for an end to all war.

I have made poppy images that are the right size for your Garden Picture, should you want to use them. Copy and paste the links below to get them! No need to credit me, and just reply asking me if you want your image personalised - perhaps with the names of loved ones xx

We do not have the green leaf on ours - I like it.   I just heard them say on the radio that there is a purple poppy to remember all the animal heroes:  horses, dogs, courier pigeons, etc.  Many also owe their lives to them.

Actually the 11th hour 11 day of the 11th month  marks the end of the 1st ww also known as armistice day , the poppies are made for the raising of money to  support servicemen and women .

Ahem, 11th November isn't a holiday in the UK. 11th is Armistice n Remembrance Day, but the second Sunday in November is used for the religious services and the laying of the wreaths at memorials, and the two minute silence. I don't know when the gvt switched from doing this on the 11th itself to the second Sunday.

Some places, including the town I grew up, have always had their services on the 11th rather than "remembrance Sunday".  It's becoming more common to see it done on the 11th, as well as on the Sunday.

In Sweden the end of World War 1 is remembered in newspapers and media, and I guess teachers in school often mention it.

Australia has fabulous dawn services (and marches of Service people or their representatives.)
