The Find Gold page has all the ways you can earn, make, and collect gold (or drops). Even I don't use too much gold per day, the free drops we get is enough for me.

The quickest way to earn gold is to level up. I think you get 20 gold each time. There are also plants along the way that give gold and there are seasonal plants in game that give gold.
