It is driving me crazy how do you keep numerous background animation in a garden  when the plant needed to produce it is not even in the garden?? And I have gardens that I frequently visit and I know they did not have the plant needed to sprinkle dust on the create the special effects, so how is it done?

The backgrounds can be frozen by using stardust. I think it last 7 days, so you can keep backgrounds for a long time without the plants as long as you sprinkle stardust every week.

I know you can use the star dust, I have been playing for 8 years, I guess what I do not understand is that I see there is no background animation in the garden and then next visit there are 4 going on at once but the plant needed is not in the garden, like the fireworks from New years eve and moving clouds etc,    all at once. But they where not there yesterday??

When the background effects wear off, you have 24 hours to restore them again.  Many people let them expire before using their stardust again, to get the full time on the effect.

So you may have seen the garden without the effects because they had expired.  Your next visit will have then been after they had restored them again.

You still should need the special pot and or flower to keep the background  to sprinkle with the star dust.If those items are not present how do they get  so many special effects at once? You cannot get any special effects with bamboo plants and just the level up plants.

As Tracey explained, if they previously had the required pots/plants and froze the bqckground, they have a 24 hour grace period after the freeze expires to reactivate it. So you may have visited the garden during the period between the previous frozen effects elapsing and them reactivating it with stardust. They don't need to have the pots/plants to reactivate the effect within the grace period.

And you don't need to keep the plants - that's the whole point of stardusting.  Once you've frozen your background, you can get rid of the plants and keep dusting to preserve the frozen background.

Okay thank you in 8 years I never realized you could freeze the background for further use.

You freeze a background with stardust, then you have to keep it stardusted every week if you want to keep it without having to keep the plants/pots which give it.  As you add different backgrounds, they also freeze with the weekly dusting.  So you can have as many backgrounds as you like, as long as you have plenty of stardust to keep them in your garden.

If you don't continue to dust weekly, you lose the backgrounds.
