Nests

Can the same bird build a nest? I know own need at least 5 spotted so that's a long time between visits. But just want a head start on Easter nests. Thinking of doing hummers but I only have one open atm as I don't have enough seeds higher up.thabks

Its been a while since I did nests or hummers.

Each bird can only contribute once to the building of a nest - it has to be five different birds.

The hummingbird nests are wonderful in that they never break, but they require a lot of work, seeds, and baby sitting to get them.  The problem is that if another bird arrives (say a mallard) and contributes to the nest, you cannot get rid of it and the nest can no longer be a hummingbird nest.  I made a couple of them and it took a long time.  Good luck!

If that happens with my nest. (Other birds contribute) does that break but the only parts that break were the other bird parts. And the hummer parts stay complete forever?

I am not sure of the answer but I imagine the next would break.  Tracey?

Yes, the nest will break if anything other than the hummingbirds add to it.  But the hummingbirds will remain; it will only be the other birds which will fall off the nest when it breaks, and you would need to replace them with different humming birds :)

I am glad that you knew I meant nest and not next!  Thank you, Tracey!

Ok thanks.  However looking at the requirements I have a lot more spotting to do of the rainforest critters before I can even begin the hummers.
