You do what you can, can't stress over what you can't control.

I brought in about 20 during the first round and all released healthy. Next round, my milkweed had gotten aphids and the leaves weren't healthy, so I brought the cats in to feast on some healthy plants and when they got larger, I moved them to the front where my healthy milkweed were. That was pretty successful. I got the milkweed in back healthy again using dishsoap on the aphids and am just letting the cats go on their own. It's difficult because the only place I have for them is the lanai and the kitties are always about. I may try to get a couple more popup cages for next year. I learned a lot during this last season.
I just read that monarchs have reached the highest level in 25 years. Maybe people helping will lead to a return in numbers eventually.

Yes, I have 4 large milkweed in back and about 7 in front. They put out little plants which I am going to transplant into some more areas. I need to get some more nectar plants. I had some, but either the ducks and geese ate them or the heat killed them. We are cooling just slightly, so time to look for some fall plants. My garden started out lovely, but is looking a bit bedraggled now. Like you, I researched the crumpled wings a bit but not much I can do except try to give them the best environment I can. The sick ones were only in the front yard, none in back.

What is an OE infestation? I had several last round with crumpled wings. I couldn't euthanize them and they disappeared so not sure if they recovered or were taken by predators. Circle of life. I'm hoping the ones I see now emerge healthy and fly away. I'm just letting me go naturally. I want to get more plants in as soon as the weather cools enough so I don't die of heat stroke.

I'm not getting as many caterpillars this round as the last 2 this summer. We still have time for at least one more round after this, but I've only seen about 8 chrysalises and my plants are still full of leaves. I see a lot of monarchs but fewer cats than expected. We will be going until November probably.
